The 1820 Foundation
About us

About us

We are a young foundation, started in 2022, by Hope and Samuel Visser.
We believe the Gospel needs to be preached in the whole world, but we’re talking about the Gospel of the Kingdom, which is much broader than salvation and redemption from sin.
Often we limit ourselves to a Gospel in which salvation is preached, which of course is needed, but once you’re saved it’s not done yet. We have a mission to fulfil which is much broader than evangelizing everywhere.

Our name, the 1820 Foundation, stems from the great commission as it is written down in Matthew 28:18-20:

“All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.
And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

As “The 1820 Foundation” it is our mission to make sure Christians in different areas of society can find each other, value each other and can work together in building the Kingdom.

We do that by reaching out to all areas of society from the church (which itself is one of those areas). We’re looking for connection and an overarching vision of the Kingdom, but are making sure we don’t revert to a society in which the church has all authority.

That’s why we regularly organize gatherings in which we invite church leaders to meet with leaders and representatives of the other areas of society. Our goal is to work on understanding each other, but also to make sure the church sees and recognizes the role of those other areas, and understands they fulfil a need the church can not fulfil.

We’re looking for connection and set free, because we acknowledge that we in church have a different calling than the other areas of society, and that we therefore don’t really have a say in how other people called for other areas of society go about fulfilling their calling.

We mainly focus on churches and ministries inside and outside of the Netherlands. We organize courses, speak and preach, and have conversations with leaders of churches and ministries. Our main topics are the Fivefold ministry and our role in society. We support these people in finding and building their vision, mission and strategy and help them connect with others to work on common goals.

This support is made practical through:

  • Courses or speaking engagements in churches and groups of people, aimed at discovering how a society works, what different areas are present in society and how these influence society, and finally discover what our personal role in this can be.
  • Organize gatherings to connect people within the different areas in society to each other for support and the exchange of ideas
  • Organize gatherings to connect people from different areas in society to each other, so interdisciplinary teams can form that can work together in finding solutions for the challenges facing us. These meetings can be organized from the perspective of the challenge we’re facing, or as requested by a group of people from one of the areas in society
  • Courses and/or studies about specific issues in society
  • Producing material to support the issues named above
